Appear as You Are.. BE as You Appear

Filed under: Food for Thought,Inspiration,Life — gardener @ 11:44 am

“Be like the sun for grace and mercy. Be like the night to cover others’ faults. Be like running water for generosity. Be like death for rage and anger. Be like the Earth for modesty. Appear as you are. Be as you appear.” ― Rumi

Yesterday I posted this quote on my Facebook page. It really struck me as I read it, as how so many of us want to appear one way, but in reality we are something else.

Be it out of fear to be vulnerable or a plethora of other reasons that we tell ourselves- at some point or another in life- we have all hidden behind the façade of how we want others to perceive us, even if that isn’t who we are.

When I first started using the Internet back in the 90’s, I remember reading an article about how when people are ‘faceless’ (this was clearly before Instagram and selfies took over) that it is easy to pretend to be something we aren’t. It’s the digital world where some think ‘anything goes’ and so many did- (and maybe still do) use the Internet to become a fictional version of themselves. Granted, this isn’t also the case- but the article talked about how one could only pretend for around 3 months to be something other than who they are without ‘true self’ shining through.

It was then I developed my ‘3 month rule’ for meeting people face-to-face that I had originally met online. It has served me well over time. The one time I did not follow said rule- the person was nothing like they appeared to be, and thankfully they weren’t an axe-murderer.

Even in face-to-face relationships with people in our lives- we often hold back- only sharing what we know will be accepted, which is in contradiction to the aforementioned quote.

“Appear as you are. Be as you appear.” Think about it for a moment, and ask yourself this question.. Do you appear as you are? And are YOU as you appear?

Enter Spring Projects

Filed under: Home,Inspiration,Life,Seasons,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 11:24 am

The time change and longer daylight hours (and a bit of sunshine) have given both Marcel and I a huge boost of energy when it comes to home projects. We have both been working on various painting projects, plus browsing goods home furnishings best furniture to decide what new additions we would like to add to our home after we get finished with painting.

We are giving the inside a few more weeks before getting started on the painting- so that we can leave the doors open and the fumes won’t take over- but the outside is taking shape and we are getting ready to paint a small area that is our ‘lounge’ space. I picked up some adorable wooden letters today to go along with the pallet sign I bought last week- both will look amazing- and once the plants and flowers start blooming, it’s going to be even prettier- Yes, it’s going to be a great year for home projects, and Spring is the perfect time.

Wedding Planning Across the Miles

Some, if not most of you who read this space know that one of my best friends daughters are engaged and the wedding will take place next summer. It is one of those things that I’m very excited about- my first Southern wedding in a very long time (since moving), plus it’s extra special to me because it is the marriage of two people that I adore and love. It has been wonderful seeing them grow from teenagers to college graduates and now planning to start their lives together.

I am honored to be able to help in the planning. Even though I am not physically ‘there’- I love that technology allows me to help plan across the miles. It brings me great joy. From the flowers, to the ceremony, to the venue (which we chose when I was home for the holidays) to everything in between- I’m so excited to be a part and can’t wait to see Miss A. start her life with the man she’s loved for so many years.

Lets Get the Party Started

Filed under: Life,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 8:16 am

In the midst of wedding planning across the miles- I’m finding that I’m learning things about weddings and wedding music that had never really crossed my mind- I’ve always thought- get the band, let them work their magic and be done with it, but it isn’t quite working out like that, since the band is also a family friend.

I’ve learned that I need to order rapco cables for the speakers, and also that having a band also is much different than having a DJ- in terms of how much space each needs.

It’s going to be a magical night, filled with music, dancing and a lot of fun. Lets get this party started.

But First- A Long, Hot Bath

I’m in for a night home alone while Marcel works, with a line up of some of my favorite TV shows to play catch-up after a busy week, and an even busier weekend on the agenda…

I have so much to share- but it’s going to have to wait until after tomorrow, where I should find something similar in relation to balance between busy and rest time-

For now- I’m off for a long hot bath- How are you kicking off your weekend?

New Weeks- New Opportunities

Filed under: Life — gardener @ 12:19 pm

I’m ‘finally’ starting to feel like I am on the other side of this flu I’ve been dealing with for almost a week. I am still tired, and still pretty much zilch on the energy scale, but the fever has broken, and that is something that has me doing a happy dance.

I was having a bit of a pity party earlier when I read a message from a friend, and it brought a huge smile to my face, and made me realize, yet again- that in everything there is a silver lining.

My plan is to rest for the upcoming several days- so that hopefully (fingers crossed) I can continue with the plans I have for the latter part of the week.

Each day arrives with a clean slate- new opportunities and endless possibilities. How are you going to make yours count?

Tending the Garden …

Filed under: Life — gardener @ 9:05 am

Life- It’s such a mystery at times, and others it isn’t. I’ve learned in life- (especially more so this past year) that when we are given something, be it information or a particular situation, it’s information. What we do with that information is up to us.

Relationships… Something I spent some time reflecting on when I was ‘home’ for the holidays, and even since I’ve returned home. Relationships that I would have once considered to be lost have resurfaced and are stronger than ever before- other relationships, the ones that are a rock in my life- continue to be so, and I think of them and remind myself just how blessed I am. I’m grateful.

There are others- where our lives have become two different roads, and while there is no malice- our lives continue down different paths, while we wish each other the best on the journey. I guess you could see it as two cars driving along-side each other on a highway, and one comes to a different road that will take them where they need to go, while the other continues straight. Both moving forward, but both on different journeys. Neither wrong, just different.

Those relationships are also something that I value in my garden of life- because regardless of where the path may take us- they have all been a gift and a lesson.

Our relationships are like flowers in a beautiful garden. What we nurture, will grow. What isn’t nurtured, will eventually wither away.

How are you tending your relationship gardens?

Dreamin’

Filed under: Life — gardener @ 10:37 am

So much is happening- and in the midst of everything- I came down with a wild case of the flu- which has pretty much knocked me flat on my back. The perk to that is catching up on all my favorite TV shows and movies- plus the extra sleep, which has found me dreaming about things from exotic vacations to learning how to play digital pianos. I had to abandon my weekend plans to nurture myself and hopefully the fever will break soon and life will resume as normal, whatever that is.

I have so much to share- watch this space.

Long Time No See…

I can’t believe how long it has been since I’ve posted here. WAY too long! I would love to share some excuses as to why- but the short reality is- I’ve been busy.

I’m now ‘home sweet home’ for the holidays, and we are having a blast. We’ve shared the love of the coast with our friends from home- and enjoyed every minute of it. Now we’re playing catch-up with more family and friends- and it’s so fun spending time with everyone again.

I’m so grateful for the people in my life- those who are there and whom I can count on through thick and thin. I am so blessed, and try never to take that for granted.

Merry Christmas season to everyone who happens to darken the doors of this space. May your season be very merry and bright.

A Little of This and That

There has been so much buzzing around happening since we landed for the holiday season. We’ve had friends who have decided to move and are now looking for at prices for for homeowners insurance in burlington nc to see if that is a viable option for them in terms of moving- plus we have had several friends find out they are expecting, and yesterday we said goodbye to a beautiful lady- who touched my heart more than 30 years ago. She will be deeply missed.

We tend to get bogged up in the every day and forget just how beautiful life really is- I’m so grateful. and you should be too.
