Started Packing

This is my new carry on.  I bought it about a month ago so that I can carry extra goodies on the plane.   I figure if they are only going to allow me one ‘free’ piece of checked luggage, but yet will allow me a personal item and a carry on, then I’d just buy the carry on and stuff it to the brim.  After all, it can weigh 40 pounds.

We have another waiting on us at mom and diddy’s.   Samantha used it when she visited because she ran out of room in her luggage.   It works out perfect for us, because we’ll have two coming home and trust me- we’ll need it.

This morning I started packing this bag.  It’s almost full-  Time is ticking-  I’m SO ready for this trip.

All About the Savings

It’s no secret amongst my family that I’m the technical minded one of the bunch. I’m definitely no genius, yet somehow my family seem to think so when it comes to matters of the technical side. I say they are biased and would deem me brilliant no matter what, but I digress.

Mom asked me the other night what I wanted to do on our first day home for the holidays and my response was ‘find them a new computer.’ Technically, I’m hoping I can talk them into getting two computers, simply because I think they would benefit from having two ‘newer’ computers in the house. The ones they have now are lacking in speed, amongst other things. Even though the decision hasn’t been made yet, I’ve already been checking out computers at Best Buy, which is where we’ve bought the last four computers we’ve owned. I’ve always had great service, plus it seems that I can always find a Best Buy promotional code to add a little extra savings to the mix. I figure you can’t go wrong with that, especially since y’all know how much I talk about how I don’t check out online without first looking for a coupon code. It’s all about the savings, which gives us more money to spend on other technical goodies, such as WiFi Internet for mom and dad.

Wednesday Rambles

Last night’s movie night was just what the doctor ordered. I was feeling particularly stressed yesterday (which seems to be more the rule than the exception as of late) and in spite of the movie having some very sad parts that had me boo-hooing and close to going into the ‘ugly cries’, the movie was great. Life as We Know it was funny and also heart-warming and was a reminder of what’s important in life- Family, Friends and Love. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend it.

Today so far has been one of those cold, dreary fall days. You know the ones- where you want to stay inside bundled up in a blanket eating comfort food. I do have several apples that are in need of baking, so I’ll probably bake those in a little while with a little cinnamon, oats, raw sugar and almond flour. I figure they’ll make a great dessert, especially since I found out that Marcel is coming home from work early to watch the soccer game. Looks like I’ll be retiring to the bedroom to watch television with Mister M. today.

New People

I love meeting new people.  I have always been one who loves to surround themselves with people (although I do enjoy quiet time as well), so when I meet someone new, it excites me.

This morning at Bible Study I met a girl from France.  I wasn’t sure where she was from at first, simply because her English was great, even though I could hear she had an accent.  I never would have pegged it as French.  She was very nice and upon talking to her a little more, she told me that her husband was American and that he is from Mississippi.   That alone had me almost screeching with joy- but then she told me he was from Jackson (4 hours from the coast- the place that I call home) and his name is Matt- (which happens to be the same as my brothers).    Needless to say, it was a great start to my day and I’m hoping that in time the two of us can possibly become friends.   She’s from Paris, and has offered to give me tips on places to visit next time I go.    It would be amazing to have an insiders suggestions.

So tell me something good that has happened to you today?

No Place Like Home

I didn’t realize until I logged in here that I haven’t written here in five days.   I thought it had only been two or so, but as life flies by at warp speed I guess days seem to pass and I’m not quite sure where they went.

I’m on the countdown until we head home for the holidays and I have to say with each passing day, I find myself getting more and more excited.    I also realized today that this visit won’t come without it’s moments of heartache, as I was thinking today about Carol and it hit me that I wouldn’t see her.   For a brief moment, I thought that I was stuck in a dream that she’s no longer here, and when I realized that pinching myself couldn’t make me any more awake than I already was- I went into a panic for a moment.  I found myself wanting to scream and cry- but I knew that while they may not go unheard- it wouldn’t change a thing.   It makes me heart heavy knowing that when I see her grave that the part of me that sometimes believes her death was all a bad dream will be no more.

Even with that being said-  I still can’t wait to be ‘home’.   I’m blessed enough to have two places to call home- but no matter what location on the map I may call home- my heart will always be in the Deep South.    There truly is ‘no place like home.’-  wherever that may be.

Days Like These

I’m sitting here sideways on my sofa with the laptop in my lap and enjoying the peace and quiet of the day. It’s cool out- a sure sign that fall is around the corner, and I find myself craving delicious soups. I need to do some research on hgh and a few other things that I’ve been wanting to learn about, but instead, I’d rather take a walk with JJ and enjoy the solitude of the day. I love days like this.

Breakfast of Champions

In case you ever wondered what my breakfast looks like each morning-    I know that it definitely doesn’t look very appetizing, but I can assure you that it is.  In addition, it’s also healthy.  You may be asking yourself what it is, and in case you’re stopping by this little spot for the first time and don’t know about my love affair with this product- I’ll tell you what it is- steel-cut oats.   These little gems aren’t to be confused with regular oats, which taste different.  In fact, I only like rolled oats in cookies and muffins, but steel-cut is a horse of an entirely different color.

This is how I eat them every morning-   With a little cinnamon, a little fat-free milk and the white stuff on top is a French Vanilla Splenda stick.   Generally the package says they are for coffee, but one little stick is perfect for oats.     MMMmm MmmmM goodness.

What do you eat for breakfast?  Do you tend to eat the same thing daily or do you switch it up to have a little variety?

Day Brightener

Yesterday I received a package from my friend Sarah. I knew she was sending it, but I’d forgotten about it, so when it arrived it was a definate day brightener. It was a belated birthday and Christmas gift and the box was filled with goodies that I fell in love with. Something she sent that I’d never tried before is some Bath and Body Works hand soap with Orange Ginger scent. It is absolutely amazing. It’s still sitting here on my coffee table and I haven’t used it yet, but I keep opening the lid and taking a whiff. I love the combination of the two and it smells good enough to eat- although I’m not about to attempt that one.

Who Rang That Bell?

This morning I had two friends come over for a coffee visit and I noticed when they arrived that they had knocked on the door. When I opened it, I asked them why they hadn’t used the door chime and they said they had pressed the button, but it didn’t work. They weren’t the first to mention it, and since the chime is so old, I think it’s high time we start looking for a new one. I’d hate to miss an important delivery because the bell wasn’t working.

Didn’t Realize

Filed under: Home,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 5:11 am

When Marcel and I moved into this place and found ourselves gutting it and redoing literally everything, I didn’t give much thought to the stainless steel kitchen sink that we ordered when we bought the kitchen. I think at that time we were both so overwhelmed that having a double sink never came into the picture, but now almost 7 years later, I’ve found myself thinking that it’s time to start making some changes. I’ve thought probably 100 times over those 7 years that double stainless steel kitchen sinks are much more practical, which is why I’m ready to start looking for a new one. We’ve been talking some time about replacing our counter top, so since we’re going to do that, I figure now is the time for a new sink. We’ll also get a new faucet, because as I’ve mentioned in the past, the one we have is also lacking.

I’ve been shopping for the best deal and so far, nothing beats the deals I’ve found on Mr. Direct. The prices are much better than the ones I’ve seen here, and they have same day shipping, which makes it easy to plan when to expect your order to arrive. Now if Marcel and I can agree on which sink we want, we’ll be in business.
