Planning

Yesterday I started making a list of the things that I would like to pick up before heading home this year for the holidays. Some items are for gifts, and others are just to have while I’m there- such as the Valrhona chocolate that I plan to use for specialty chocolate bars and in my cupcakes while I’m home. One thing I did see the other day was a print at one of the local museums that I’d love to pick up and give to someone on my gift list. (Not mentioning any names in case they see this.) I definitely don’t want it to get bent or creased, so I’m going to pick up a shipping tube and put it in my carry-on and that way it should stay safe all the way home. Plus I can wrap it with the tube around it and it will stay secure until the print is framed. Even though it’s months away- I’m already getting excited!

Decorating Inspiration

Filed under: Home,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 8:10 am

One of the biggest places I get ideas for the home these days are Pinterest and home improvement shows. I know some people aren’t fans of reality TV, and I don’t like all shows, but anything that can inspire me has me hooked.

Once I see something, I’ll go online and start a search until I find what I’m looking for, like the show I saw on bathroom remodeling raleigh nc. I saw a few things I think would be a great addition to our bath and without the show I may have never come up with the inspiration. I LOVE things that inspire- regardless of what it is.

Hippity Hoppity

I saw crocuses today and that means only one thing- Spring is coming! It also means that I’ve got the fever to start thinking about spending time outside and possibly getting something new for the garden, like a bright red offset umbrella that I saw and fell in love with. BBQ’s, small intimate parties with close friends- all things I can’t wait to do. Spring is here and I’m predicing it’s going to be a great one.

Celebrations

Today Marcel and I are celebrating our 8th wedding anniversary- Technically we aren’t celebrating until this weekend since he’s working tonight- but today is our ‘day’. He brought me some gorgeous roses yesterday and I made him some cranberry-almond brownies that happen to be one of his favorites. Mine too, but I’m trying not to indulge- although I did have a little bite.

It has been a busy day here in house- but a good one. Right now I’m looking forward to another year together with him- and the adventures that we will have along the way. He’s good about indulging my wishes and whims- I feel very blessed and lucky.

Browsing for Ideas

I was looking through pictures on Facebook the other day of one of my friends. It’s someone’s page that I haven’t been to in a long time, and I always enjoy seeing what things people share- especially when it’s related to their home. This particular person had built and moved into their new home and one of the bedrooms was furnished with log bedroom furniture. It is a rustic cabin and I really loved the way it tied into the theme. Their view is amazing as well, as they live in the mountains.

Isn’t it funny how much we can learn from people just by looking at their pictures and reading their wall’s on Facebook?

Little by Little

Since we finally bought some new living room furniture- something we’d been talking about for a while and in desperate need of- we have decided that next year we’re going to do some other home improvements. Possibly some new interior doors- painting throughout, along with some new light fixtures and maybe even some switch plate covers. The plan is to wait until Spring- when we can open the doors without freezing- since the smell of paint will bother my allergies- but I’m already starting to get excited about planning and getting it done.

Little by little- 2012 is shaping up to be an amazing year.

Evaluating Priorities

For a while now, I’ve been thinking about how it doesn’t seem that there are enough hours in the day for me to get everything accomplished that I’d like to get done. Lately my ‘to do’ list seems to be growing faster than it depletes, so I know that there’s only on thing that I can do and that is change my priority list.

I haven’t been sleeping well, so I know that I’m going to need to start going to bed earlier (instead of staying up crazy hours trying to get things done and then taking a long time to unwind afterwards), and also getting up earlier. This will allow me time to work out in the mornings (so that nothing can come between me and the time with myself) and then more time in the afternoons and late morning to get other things done- along with the other everyday tasks that need to be done.

I need to become more organized and I guess prioritizing is going to have to be at the top of that list..

I guess it’s time for me to at least attempt to become a morning person.

Home Improvements

In the midst of everything that has been happening in our household- I’ve been thinking about new applicances that I’ll need to make things here much easier when the business gets up and running. I have been thinking about a new oven- a larger one, of course, not to mention some extra counter space. One thing I’ve learned is that before buying anything online to check for coupons first. So I know that if I want to order paint, I need to look for Lowe’s coupons before I do. After all- there’s no way I want to pay more if I don’t have to.

New Beginnings

It’s the last day of my birthday month and I’ve spent most of the day so far in total relaxation. I think I’ve needed the time to just do ‘nothing’ (although nothing did consist of me doing some cleaning in the kitchen and several loads of laundry) since July has been such a busy month.

I’ve celebrated all month, had some great moments with friends, but now it’s time to return to reality. That means new chapters and beginnings, plus getting back to a regular exercise and eating routine. I’ve been lax for far too long and it’s time to ‘get with the program’.

There is much to look forward to in August- but right now I still have a little time left in today- so I’d like to share a few things that I’m grateful for- on this last day of July.

I’m Grateful For:

  • A day of quiet and solitude, allowing me to gather my thoughts and ideas for the coming weeks.
  • Leftover shrimp and seaweed salad- which will be part of my dinner tonight.
  • Looking around at those I truly call friends and knowing just how blessed Iam.
  • Those who offer me love, support and truth- and knowing that I can always count on that.
  • Simple things- JJ barking at a watermelon and trying to play with it-   Mister M. purring at me in the mornings and wanting to be petted.

Precious Moments

The end of my birthday month- It’s hard to believe a month of celebrating has come and gone. Now there are other things to plan- such as vacations with my mom and dad and birthday’s of people I love and adore. Before I know it- Christmas will be come and gone and I have a dear friend who will be looking at first birthday invitations for her little girl who will turn one early next year. It seems that time flies- in the blink of an eye. I often wonder where it all goes, which is why I think it is important to make the most of every, single moment. After all they are each and every one precious.
