Flowers- Pretty Flowers

Since I’m having a little party this weekend- I thought I’d go out today and pick up some flowers to brighten things up in here a little. I had a gift card from one of the local florists that Desere gave me back in February, so I thought this would be the perfect time to use it.

I stopped in and found two huge bouquets of sunflowers, plus two boquets of multi-colored roses that I loved, so I bought them all. I came home and got them in their prospective vases and couldn’t help but smile- it looks like a color explosion in here- and that just screams happiness.

One Step at a Time

Filed under: Home,Life,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 10:07 am

There is so much going on in our household at the moment that lately I’m having to remind myself to keep breathing- It’s just busy busy with lots of fun activities and adventures in the making, but we’re also in the process of wanting to make some changes in our household. We have laminate floors throughout the bedrooms and when we bought it I liked the color but now I don’t. I’ve been looking at the BestLaminate.net laminate floor in hopes of finding something new- plus I’ve also been looking at new colors to paint our living room. There is a list of what we’d like to do since we made the decision to stay here and it looks like we’ll get them done one at a time, although I do find myself wishing I could wave a magic wand and have it all done at once.

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Marcel and I had dinner outside tonight, and even though it was a little chilly outside- I couldn’t help but love every second that we spent surrounded by the beautiful flowers and herbs that we planted over the past couple of weeks. Surprisingly- I’m already noticing a huge differnce in the size of the plants, and it won’t be long before they are flowing with blooms. I can’t wait. While we were eating- I commented that a outdoor fire pit would be perfect, especially if we could have it close enough to offer a little warmth- but yet far enough to not be overpowering. Since Marcel is even more cold natured than I’ve ever been- I could tell he was thinking about it. He didn’t say much- but the wheels are turning. In the meantime- I’ll continue to enjoy my little peaceful spot filled with color.

Sunny Days-

The weather has been absolutely perfect today- so it only made sense for me to toss the ‘to-do’ list in the corner and head out to the beach for coffee and to soak up a few rays.

When we arrived there were only a few people there, but it didn’t take long before it started getting busy-  I can imagine that by the time mid-afternoon rolled around, the place was packed.

I SO love Spring!

If today was any indication of what the rest of the weekend is going to look like- weather wise-  You can rest assured that there won’t be any cleaning (or cooking) going on in this household, unless it’s done outside.

Making a List

Filed under: Home,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 7:21 am

Marcel have been talking a while about changes we would like to make ‘in-house’. We have ceramic tiles throughout most of our home, with the exception of the three bedrooms and one hall- those are laminate. When we bought the place, we found something that we liked, but since then I’m not sure if my taste has changed, or that maybe I was feeling pressure of getting everything done so we could move in so we just picked ‘something’, but now I’m really hating what we have.

One of the things on our ‘to do’ list is to change the flooring in those rooms, but everything we’ve looked at has been expensive. I want something nice, but also want to get the best deal for my money, so I’m waiting for a laminate flooring sale to see what kind of deals we can find. I’ve got a few ideas of what I’d like, but I’m going to have to be patient, and let me tell you- that isn’t going to be easy.

In the meantime, I’m continuing to get rid of things that we aren’t using in hopes to save a little extra cash for the new sofa and chairs that we want to get later this year.

Coffee and Friends

I was sleeping late this morning (due to the fact that it took me forever to fall asleep- partially in fact because I was watching a movie- The Reader) when my I heard the familiar ‘ding’ from my iPhone letting me know that I had a text. It was Desere, wanting to know if she could come over for coffee. I hadn’t talked to her in a few days and since I’m generally up for having people stop in for coffee any time, I told her to come on!

I pulled out my new coffee grinder and ground some of the Starbucks Casi Cielo beans that I have. Not only do I love the taste of freshly ground coffee, I also love the way it smells. Pure bliss! After a little walk with JJ and allowing him a little playtime with a Jack Russell, who seemed to have a crush on him- I brewed the coffee and waited.

We had quite a bit to talk about, so it was great to catch up. Right now- Marcel is doing the dishes, which allows me to catch up on my blogging. I have also started my list for 101 things in 1001 days- which I’ll be sharing when it’s complete. I should have it done for the April 1st kick-off and am already pretty sure what the first thing to check off the list will be- (More on that later).

I’m so grateful for the friends in my life- without them-my life would be not nearly as enriched.

Coastal Living

Filed under: Home,In the Neighborhood,Seasons,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 9:20 am

It’s no secret that I talk to mom on the phone every day and in fact, most days several times a day. We are all planning a trip later this year to places that have yet to be determined but since it’s going to happen during hurricane season, diddy is looking at honda generators and thinking about replacing the one that he’s had since the late 70’s. I think he bought it right before hurricane Fredrick in 1979, so I’d say that he’s gotten his money’s worth out of it, but he said it’s definitely time for something new.

I probably would have replaced it long ago, simply because once a hurricane has hit- there are no generators to be found for a reasonable price. This will also give them peace of mind if they are away and one hits. At least then my brother or someone else in the family can take care of things without having to worry about mechanical issues. Some people think it’s premature- but it’s all part of living in the South.

Forgotten Treasures

The past couple of days I’ve been cleaning out drawers and spaces where I haven’t ventured in a while, and it has almost been like Christmas in some aspects. The intention of going through these spaces was to get rid of things that I no longer used, but in doing so, I’ve also found things I’d forgotten that I even owned.

My favorite thing so far- a pair of knitted purple house socks with a cat applique on each side. The cat is coming unsewn on one of them, so I’ll repair it so I won’t lose ‘kitty’.

The odd thing is that I have no recollection of when or where I bought them. I do remember buying them, just not when. My favorite thing about them (aside from the cute cat on the side) is that they are just the right amount of warmth- not too much and not too little. They keep my feet the perfect temperature.

I can’t wait to see what other treasures I find in this quest to reorganize and get rid of things that we no longer use.

Too Hot to Handle

Filed under: Home,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 9:45 am

Marcel and I were talking the other day about taking a trip ‘home’ during the summer. He knows this means extreme temps and humidity. Personally, I don’t think he would be able to withstand an hour in that humidity, but he thinks otherwise. He doesn’t realize that it’s so bad there that many people use a home dehumidifier to keep the moisture out of the air in their homes. It keeps the mold and mildew at bay, not to mention the stinky smells associated with it.

Our plan is to eventually move home and when we do, I know that I’ll be listening to him complain about the heat from May until the end of Septermber. At least he won’t have to worry about snow.

Is That Sunshine I See?

For the past two days I’ve been keeping a close eye on the weather here and they have said that today and tomorrow would bring rain and possibly light snow. I honestly don’t mind the rain on the days that I can stay inside in my PJ’s (like today) and since I haven’t seen any snow this year, I wouldn’t mind that either- as long as it found a way to stick around for a few days.

Not so surprisingly, neither was the case today. It has remained around the freezing point today- maybe a little higher with grey skies most of the day. Now, as I sit here with the laptop in my lap and me stretched out across the love seat, I noticed the afternoon sun shining on the wall. Looking outside, I see a pinkish glow to the sky in the west. It may sound odd- but for some reason it makes me smile. Little things, my friends- little things.
