Saturday Smiles

After waking up to a cloudy morning- the sun has broken through and as I type this- is shining on my shoulders. It feels great. The slowly rising temps and the sunshine have really energized and inspired me the past few days and I feel better than I have in a long time and for that, I’m extremely grateful.

Before I head off to the bathtub, I thought I’d share 5 things that make me smile today. I’d also love to hear what is bringing a smile to your face today- and every day.

5 Things that Bring a Smile to My Face Today

  • The warmth of sunshine on my shoulders.
  • Movie night tonight with Desere.
  • Clothes on the clothes-line, blowing in the wind.
  • Leftover quiche for dinner, which means no cooking!
  • Sleeping late.

On Gratitude

Filed under: Food for Thought,Gratitude — gardener @ 11:32 am

Earlier I wrote on my Facebook status message that a little gratitude goes a long way. That’s something that I truely believe and I believe that when people do things for us, even the slightest something- that we should be grateful. I don’t necessarily think you have to jump up and down or shout from the rooftops how thankful you are, but a simple thank you or an acknowledgement of the amount of effort the person has put into that particular something is more than enough.

Before you ask- or even wonder- I’m not talking about me- In fact, I’m not talking about anything in particular, but sometimes little incidents trigger these type of thoughts. I’m grateful for the little things, sometimes when they have nothing to do with me.

The perfect example of that would be that my best friend went to mom and dad’s to help mom with something that she’s been wanting to work on. I know my friend is busy and I know mom is busy, but I also know that my friend being there gave mom the little bit of inspiration and incentive to work on these projects instead of allowing them to confuse and conquer her. They both had a blast and I am thrilled. My response to my best friend was- “Thank you for taking the time, for making the effort. I know mom appreciates it- but so do I.” For her, it was no effort. She wanted to do it and enjoyed it, but I am grateful.

If you look around- there are many things to show gratitude for each and every day and sometimes- that gratitude may be exactly what someone needs.

Loving that Vitamin D!

This morning when I woke up I was thrilled to see the sun streaming through the window. The days have been so grey as of late that I’d almost forgotten what it was really like to have a day filled with blue skies and sunshine. I almost didn’t notice the cold temps. Truth is, I didn’t care about how cold it was; all I cared about was being able to take JJ outside and spend some time soaking up Vitamin D.

Since Marcel had the day off today- we also picked up a few groceries. I ended up spending more than I anticipated, but the house is now re-stocked with healthy foods, with the exception of the chocolate bars that Marcel bought.

Dinner was left-over minestrone soup and momentarily I’ll put on some make-up so that I’ll be presentable when Desere gets here. I’m not worried about her seeing me without make-up (she’s seen me without it often enough), but since we’re going to the movies tonight, I don’t want to scare the masses.

I’m hoping that tomorrow brings us more of the same in terms of sunshine so that I can spend a little time outside soaking up a little more of that Vitamin D. It has definitely given me some extra energy!

Is That Sunshine I See?

For the past two days I’ve been keeping a close eye on the weather here and they have said that today and tomorrow would bring rain and possibly light snow. I honestly don’t mind the rain on the days that I can stay inside in my PJ’s (like today) and since I haven’t seen any snow this year, I wouldn’t mind that either- as long as it found a way to stick around for a few days.

Not so surprisingly, neither was the case today. It has remained around the freezing point today- maybe a little higher with grey skies most of the day. Now, as I sit here with the laptop in my lap and me stretched out across the love seat, I noticed the afternoon sun shining on the wall. Looking outside, I see a pinkish glow to the sky in the west. It may sound odd- but for some reason it makes me smile. Little things, my friends- little things.

Shiny Happy People

After a pretty emotional week (which included a sick doggie); I can say that the weekend has arrived and I’m feeling a little more energetic ready to take on the world.

I guess you could say that since we’ve returned from our trip that the pendulum of emotions have been across the board and I’m determined that things will stay on the upward swing.  I know that part of it has to do with the peri-menopause (which I’ve been said to have a severe case of) and other little obstables, but I really want to start focusing on the positive, especially since I know it will make a difference in how I deal with the negative.

I have a busy day ahead of me, but I wanted to share a few things I’m grateful for.    I’m always grateful, but I know I need to take more time to recognize those little things in life that I’m grateful for.

My Gratitude List for February 12, 2011.

Today I’m Grateful For:

  • Dinner out with friends and my favorite guy tonight.
  • Inspiration to be more creative.
  • JJ, who is feeling MUCH better today.
  • Relaxing mornings and a good nights sleep.
  • The color red, which I always tend to gravitate towards.

7 Years and Counting

Yesterday was mine and Marcel’s 7th wedding anniversary. In some ways I find it difficult to believe that we’ve been married that long and in other ways it seems like it’s been longer. There have been times when people have commented that we have the perfect marriage, but in reality- I don’t believe that anyone has a perfect marriage. Trust me, there are times when I want to strangle him, just as I know there are times when he feels the same about me. We do love each other though and we both constantly see that there are ways that we can work on and improve our relationship.

He’s good to me and good for me- and I love him dearly- for that I’m very grateful.

Gratitude

Filed under: Gratitude — gardener @ 11:55 am

In spite of feeling very emotional about our trip home in 11 days, I’m feeling very grateful about so many things. My life is far from perfect (and I’m leary about anyone who says their life is perfect), but I am very blessed in so many ways.

I wanted to take a little time to share some of the things that I’m grateful for on this day.

My Gratitude List for January 9, 2011.

Today I’m Grateful for:

  • Being loved.
  • Friendship that has stood the test of time.
  • A warm home on a cold winter day.
  • Family and a husband who are healthy.
  • The opportunity to be able to spend 9 1/2 weeks at home with family and friends.

Vacation to Recover from the Vacation

Even though we still have 26 days left in our trip (longer than many people’s entire vacations), I can tell that people are noticing that we are on the downhill slope of the trip. They are trying to squeeze in get together’s and I’ve been thinking about how grateful I am that so many people want to spend time with us. I’m trying my best to see everyone, but I know at the end of the trip there will be those that I never were able to get a chance to see in spite of really wanting to.

I mentioned to someone a few days ago that when I get home, I’m going to need a week to rest after all the going and doing. I guess a vacation to recover from the vaction if you will.

Sunshine on My Shoulders

Filed under: Food for Thought,Gratitude — gardener @ 2:35 pm

I was sitting in church this morning and it really hit me just how blessed I really am. Don’t get me wrong- I don’t feel as though I take all the great things in my life for granted, but I believe that in all that has happened this year, I had really started focusing more on what wasn’t good instead of spending time being grateful for all that was.

Pastor Jenkins commented before prayer this morning about how difficult it is this time of the year for so many people and that suicide rates are higher this time of the year than any other. He talked about how some people don’t have a roof over their heads, heat in their homes, or food on the table. I’ve never had to experience any of those things- and that was the moment that it hit me that when I’m feeling down that I really should focus on what great things are happening in my life.

My blessings are many and I’m so grateful.

Right now I’m going to head out and enjoy the rest of the sunshine that we’ve been given today- plus spend some time with Blackjack (the cat) and MK (the other cat). They’re waiting.

Tis The Season for Giving

Christmas has always been my favorite holiday. When I was younger- I am sure I loved it because of the gift receiving aspects, but now as I’ve gotten older, I’ve found that I receive much more joy from giving than I do from receiving. Don’t get me wrong- I love gifts; after all, who doesn’t, but it’s nothing like surprising people randomly and adding a smile to their face.

Today while running around, I stopped in at our local Krispy Kreme shop and picked up some gift certificates good for a dozen original glazed doughnuts. If you buy them- the price is close to $8.00 per dozen, but if you buy the gift certificates they end up costing about 2.75 each dozen. It was a pretty big chunk of change that I had to pay to get them, but I wanted to be able to give them to family and friends- plus pass them out to random strangers. Tis the season- and hopefully it will brighten someones day.

I challenge you to do the same- in any way you can.
