Happy Christmas Eve!

After waking up to the sound of rain falling- I’m peering outside as I type this and see that the sun has made an appearance. Mom says that it’s really humid out- with mild temps, but tapping on the heels of all that is yet another cold front, so cooler weather is yet again on its way. I’d forgotten how crazy Southern Mississippi weather can be this time of the year, but it’s a lot milder than years past- or at least that’s how I am remembering it anyway.

It’s hard for me to believe that it’s Christmas Eve. Tomorrow, Christmas Day. Tonight we will spend the evening with people I love dearly, and tomorrow we’re having a relaxing and laid back Christmas- with our festivities happening for supper instead of the late lunch that it has traditionally been. We’re also having soup- which I love the idea of- plus Christmas breakfast- something I don’t think we’ve ever done since we always eat so early.

What are you doing for Christmas? Whatever it is- I hope you find yourself surrounded by much love and joy!

Cooking

I’ve officially started my Christmas baking. Two days ago I baked a Dutch apple tart- a sour cream pound cake, plus an apple, spice cranberry-nut cake. The first two have made it to their homes and the last one will be delivered tomorrow evening. Aside from that, I have a LOT of cookies and other recipes in the mix so I can whip up Christmas trays to give to busy people who don’t have time to do holiday baking.

I love this time of the year.

Making a List

Most of you who know me- know that as much as I wish he didn’t, my darling husband smokes. I’m allergic to smoke of any type- so he doesn’t do it around me, but he does do it. It’s a habit that he is hoping to kick sometime in the near future, or so he says- but I still caught him looking at xikar lighters online the other day. I thought he was searching for Christmas gifts- but maybe he has that in mind for himself. I’m not sure since he didn’t mention it, but he did make sure I saw it- so I guess it’s possible.

I guess we’ll have to see what Santa leaves under the tree.

Making a List

In addition to packing and prepping our home for our upcoming vacation- I’ve been spending some time perusing the Internet looking for Christmas gift ideas- and making a list (I haven’t checked it twice, yet!) of what I want to buy for whom. I’ve also come across some great cushion deals, which have been a source of inspiration for some decorating ideas I’ve got brewing.

I’m excited-and it hit me today just how excited I am. Lots to get done in the time between now and our travels, but I’m looking forward to every moment.

Making a List

Filed under: Holidays,Life,Seasons,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 9:07 am

Since I’m super late with my Christmas shopping- I think it’s about time that I sit down and decide what I’m getting for whom and start making it happen. I think I’ll probably give my brother a Starbucks card because I know it’s an indulgence that he really enjoys- and I know he doesn’t really need anything else- Dad could use some micrometers and I still haven’t decided yet on mom- but I’ll figure out something. I’m still working on Marcel’s too- although I do have a few ideas.. Slowly but surely-I’ll get there.. Just gotta get that list made and start checking it off.

Cooling Off

I’ve noticed the past couple of days that when the evenings roll around that things are changing. It isn’t that the temps are really any cooler, because they aren’t- but there is this certain crispness to the evening air that tells me it won’t be long before fall has arrived.

I love this time of the year- there is something about it that not only makes me smile, but it triggers memories of days in my childhood- days of happy times- of my brother and I jumping in the freshly raked leaves that dad spent all day raking. SO many memories- they make me smile.

I have spent some time sitting outside watching the sun go down this week and I can only imagine in the days to come there will be more of that- I am looking forward to it and hopefully having things slow down a little before they kick off to great busyness.

I guess you could say that in some ways this is the calm before the storm- but this is a storm I’ll welcome with open arms.

First day of July and I’m ready to get this ‘birthday month’ party started! Looks like I’m going to start it with a bang… we’re headed out tonight to Hein’s birthday dinner celebration and tomorrow I’ll be seeing Pirates of the Caribbean with Bobbi. Sunday will be a day of rest for me and Monday- more fun and adventures.

I hearby designate July as a month of celebrations!

Summer

I love summer.   In fact, I guess you could say that I love ALL seasons for all that they bring to the table, but more and more I’m finding that summer is ranking amongst my favorite times of the year.

You may wonder why-   As those Spring days are leaning towards Summer, I’ve found that the baby ducklings are coming into their own, and it won’t be long before they leave the nest and go about their own lives.   It’s the process of nature- and something about watching them grow from a duckling into a full-grown duck makes me smile.

Picnics-  I haven’t been on one in ages- unless you count us eating dinner outside on days like today- but when I see dinner ware like the one to your left-  how can you NOT want to go on a picnic?   In fact-  I’d rather eat on them all summer long- they are just THAT cute-     If only there was a Pier One just around the corner- I’d be highly tempted.     Then again- there’s always online shopping.    They would be really cute for my end of July tapas get together with some of my favorite people.

Fruit- Is there anything not to like about summer fruits?  BBQ’s and well- the list goes on-   Time at the beach, longer daylight hours and of course-  my birthday. (Didn’t think I’d leave that out did you?)

So tell me- What are your favorite things about summer?

Fun Times

I need to check in on my 101 things in 1001 days list and see if I’ve done anything as of late that I can check off. Today- I visited friends, both old and new, had a great lunch, did some walking around a new city (at least to me) and yes, ate a cupcake. It wasn’t just ‘any’ cupcake- it was an Oreo cupcake it was delicious! I brought a caramel one home for Marcel and tasted it too and it was just as sinfully good, but in a different way.

I also walked in the rain today- and spend some time walking around inside a cube shaped house. Fun times!

Adios Winter

Today is the LAST (Yes, I said LAST) day of Winter and I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to kiss it goodbye for a while. I do love each season for the beauty that it possesses, but I’ve seen enough grey skies to last me a while (technically forever, but I guess a girl can’t have everything, can she?) and I’m ready to enjoy the sunshine. So much so, that I’m ready to pull out the Kindle and do some reading while soaking up a few rays and some much needed Vitamin D.

Good riddance winter and WELCOME SPRING!!!

What’s your favorite thing about Spring?

Mine?
-Flowers
-New life
-More Blue skies
-Warmer temps
-Longer days.. and the list goes on and on…
