Time Flies

I can’t believe that it has been five days since I’ve last posted here. I would love to say that I’ve been having so much fun that I haven’t had time to write anything, but I would be lying. Truth is, I had a nasty little flu bug that got me down for a few days. I’m pretty sure it was one in the same that Marcel had about a week prior to me getting sick.

I am happy to report that it came and went pretty quickly, and even though I’m not at 100%, I’m feeling much, much better.

Marcel has the next few days off, and he’s promised to do a few things around here, such as have a peek at the kitchen faucet which has become loose and is driving me bonkers. He’s also planning to work on the garage flooring so that he can move forward with his plans to put a boxing bag in the garage in the next few months. He thinks it will help him vent his frustrations from time to time. Maybe he’s right.

I Knew Better than to Get Out

I saw the sun today for about a half an hour, but even though there was a little sun, I still didn’t feel like doing much, so I haven’t. I debated back and forth whether to go to the doc today, but decided finally to wait and see how I feel in the morning.

Instead, I decided that I would get out and quickly do some grocery shopping, since having the ls2208 at one of the stores makes it easier to shop. Unfortunately, it started snowing when I walked out the door and the wind picked up, making it for a unpleasant experience for someone who is already feeling bad.

The rest of the day has been spent doing nothing, and unless I have a miracle healing tonight, I’ll be going to the doctor tomorrow. What a great way to spend my 6 year anniversary.

Infected

Well, it appears that my efforts to avoid Marcel at all costs so that I wouldn’t get sick have failed, since I’ve now been struggling with the same flu. I thought this morning for about half a second that I felt better, and since that moment my poor body has been spiraling down hill at a faster rate than I like to admit.

If this continues, I’ll be making my own little trip to the doc sometime this week, as I am actually running a fever, and Marcel was not. At least there is some consolation to feeling bad- yesterday I wanted to eat everything in sight, today I’m forcing myself to eat. I guess there’s a silver lining to every dark cloud.

Having the time to lounge also gave me the time to install Windows 7 on my laptop, something that up until today I haven’t made the time to do. Again, a silver lining, since so far, I actually like it, especially when I thought my email was gone, only to find that when I installed the email program on the MS site to find that all my mail appeared. Yay!!

Right now, I think it’s time for a bath, and then I’m going to attempt to eat a salad that I prepared myself, that’s just sitting there- waiting.

If you have a chance- say a little prayer for me that I feel better soon. I have much to do this week.

Hormonal H-E-double Hockey Sticks

I know some of you may find this to be a little T.M.I. (too much information) but I’m really over having these horrible cramps every month. I know- I know- but this is my little space and I can write about what I want to, and right now- that’s what I want to write about.

Over the past year or so, those little monthly visitors have become increasingly worse, and I know I’ve mentioned it before, but I’m very certain that I’m in the stages of perimenapause. I had all the symptoms with the exception of irregular periods, and well- last month I had two, so I guess I have all the symptoms now.

I think I’m going to talk to my doc and see if he would be willing to run some blood work to see if I’m short on the hormones, just to be sure, and then see if he would be willing to give me some hormone replacement cream. I hear it works wonders, and trust me, considering the mood swings I have from time to time, I need them.

I read today that Dr. Oz (whom I adore), says that some hormones are like Valium for our bodies, and when it’s too short, we tend to stress out more than usual. Dr. Oz knows and I’d say that it pretty much nails how I feel from time to time by getting annoyed at the tiniest things.

Does anyone else go through this, or am I alone in this little journey? Come on- don’t make me do it alone. haha

8 Days to Go

Is it Tuesday already? I can’t believe that in a little over a week February is upon us, and that means one month down until we make our trip home for the holidays. Yes, I know, it’s January and I’m already talking about the holidays, but I’m so excited about our upcoming trip and can’t wait to see everyone.

I’m expecting great things this year, so there is much to take place between now and our little jaunt to visit with family and friends. I’m really excited at all the potential, and one of them is finally getting this last 40 pounds off. I may decide later that I’d like for it to be a little more than 40, but right now, 40 is the goal.

I have been doing really well with my sugar detox and officially have 8 more days until it is over. I have to say that without the sugar making me sluggish and lethargic, I find that I have much more energy and actually think with a clear head. Another great thing is that I’m not constantly craving sugar and the need to drug myself with something sweet.

Once the detox is over, I’m going to limit my intake of Coke Zero and only use Splenda with my oatmeal in the mornings. I really want to keep this going, not to mention if I don’t crave sweets, I’m not likely to binge on them. Sugar is one of those things I really should avoid. After all, it doesn’t really serve a purpose anyway.

What about you? How are you doing on your journey to better health and weight loss?

ATTENTION: McNeil Product Recall

When I receive information that I think is valueable to others, I like to use this space to be able to share that news in hopes that it can help another person or life.

This morning I had an email regarding a massive product recall from McNeil, which includes everyday items such as Tylenol, Benadryl, Motrin, Simply Sleep, Rolaids, and St. Joseph products. I like to make sure when I receive items like this that they aren’t a hoax, so I did go straight to the source McNeil to find out the details. You can find out more by visiting the product recall information site, which lists all pertinent information regarding this massive recall, including all product information.

The email I received stated the following:

“The company is carrying out this recall because they have received several consumer reports of an unusual moldy, musty, or mildew-like odor that was associated with nausea, stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea. These reported cases were temporary and non-serious. The uncharacteristic smell is caused by the presence of trace amounts of a chemical called 2,4,6-tribromoanisole. The source of 2,4,6-tribromoanisole is believed to be the breakdown of a chemical used to treat wooden pallets that transport and store packaging materials. The health effects of this compound have not been well studied. At this time, all of the consumer cases reported to McNeil were associated with Tylenol Arthritis Pain Caplet 100 count bottles with the distinctive red EZ-OPEN CAP.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

If you use any over-the-counter products for pain, fever, cold and flu symptoms, allergies, sleep, stomach problems, or prevention of heart attack or stroke, please check to see if you have any Tylenol, Motrin, Benadryl, Rolaids, Simply Sleep, or St. Joseph products. If you have any of these products, go to the product recall website or call McNeil Customer Service to see if the product and lot number is involved in the recall. The lot numbers are usually found on the side of the bottle, on the bottom of the bottle, or on the outer packaging.

McNeil Product Recall Website: http://www.mcneilproductrecall.com
McNeil Customer Service Telephone: 1-888-222-6036 (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time, and Saturday-Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time)

If you have any of the recalled product, you should stop using the product and contact McNeil by phone or internet for instructions for a refund or replacement and for information about how to return or dispose of the product.

If you have taken the recalled product and have medical concerns or questions, please contact your healthcare provider. Any adverse reactions may also be reported to the FDA’s MedWatch Program by fax at 1-800-FDA-0178; by mail at MedWatch, FDA, 5600 Fishers Lane, Rockville, MD 20852-9787; or on the MedWatch website at http://www.fda.gov/medwatch.

Please Pass this Information on to EVERYONE you know.

Help is Available

Lately I’ve been watching a lot of shows that I’ve DVR’d over the past months when I was too busy to watch them on the regular nights, and I’ve noticed that there are quite a few programs talking about drug rehab. I haven’t seen the show Intervention, but I hear that it’s a great show, which helps intervene with those who are having problems and gets them help. I think these types of shows are great. Not only because it helps those who are struggling, but also because it raises awareness for those with drug problems and hopefully encourages another who could be struggling. Even though it’s not something I’ve ever struggled with personally, I know many who have, and it’s comforting knowing there is help out there.

Moving Right Along

Since it seems to be the topic of conversation today, I decided to share a little more about my journey. I realized today that I am close to being half way through my little 21 day sugar detox and I’ve done it without any thermotox or any other type of medication to help curb my appetite and cravings. Granted, it hasn’t been easy. Last night I felt like sugar was calling my name from the kitchen, but I managed to get past the overwhelming craving without giving in. I know I’m on the right path, and this weekend I’ll begin with the elliptical again.

Those of us who are on this journey do struggle from time to time. After all, we are human, but we have to keep moving forward, to reach our ultimate goals. I’m no superwoman- I’m just committed to myself, because I know I’m worth it. Do I falter? Of course I do, but I pick myself up, brush myself off, and move forward.

Foot Sandwich- High in Fiber, Low in Calories

I mentioned this little happening in one of my other journals, but I wanted to share it here as well, because it just is one of those things that I think everyone should think twice about. I know we’ve all been guilty of it at some point in our lives- making assumptions, but often times when we make assumptions we put ourselves out there to stick our foot in our mouth, pretty much the way someone did a few days ago when they asked me what weight loss supplements that I had used to lose the weight that I have lost. After they picked their jaw up off the floor when I told them I hadn’t used any, I followed it with telling them it was good ole’ fashioned exercise, and healthy eating. They were hoping for something ‘easier’ and I explained that there may be easier methods, but there was no magic pill to make it all go away for good.

So next time you begin to make an assumption, you may want to make sure you know what you’re talking about. Otherwise you may find yourself eating a foot sandwich for lunch.

Strange but True Happenings

I’m going to tell y’all a little something weird that has been happening to me. Ok, technically the situation itself isn’t that weird, but my discoveries are a little on the odd side if you ask me. Then again, some people would say that I’m odd, so I guess it would be appropriate.

About a month ago, I noticed that my lower legs (below my knees) started itching quite a bit. I thought at first that it was eczema, and I started using some cream that my doctor gave me last year for the same thing. I’ve had this two or three other times and it’s always in the same place. I generally start with using lotion to see if that helps, and if it doesn’t I move to this cream, which generally helps. This time, it didn’t help. I noticed though, that it only itched during the night, but for the life of me, I couldn’t figure out why.

Now I know this is going to sound crazy, but I think it’s my PJ’s. I have flannel ones that I’ve been wearing, and some others that are really big and fluffy. I have several pairs of each because they are so soft and cozy, not to mention warm. I finally resorted to using Caladryl and last night I slept in my thermal pants. I didn’t itch. Now, could it be the Caladryl that helped, or is it my pjs? I really don’t want to be allergic to my pjs, but it does seem suspicious.
