Safety First?

Filed under: Techy — gardener @ 7:15 am

I have been seeing a lot in the news lately as to how parents are taking extra precautions when it comes to their children. It seems like everywhere you look in the world ther is some child who is being abducted or who has disappared and some parents have started using tracking devices as a manner of knowing where their child is at all times.

Some people believe this is going too far, but I personally think that when it comes to the safety of your child that you can never be cautious enough. So tell me what you think? Would you use a GPS device to help keep up with your child, if it meant keeping them safe?

Life Lessons

Filed under: Food for Thought,Life's Little Hiccups — gardener @ 5:00 am

I’ve been in the midst of some pretty tumultuous waters lately and I have to say that it has had me feeling pretty much on edge constantly. What I realized after about a week and a half is that I had become so overwhelmed with everything that was happening and the negativity of others that all I could seem to focus on was the turmoil. I knew there were good things in my life simply because I know I am blessed, but at that particular point, it took a lot to see them.

Why? Because my focus was on the wrong thing.

The waters have since calmed a bit. I suspect that the tide will always be high, the rip-current ready to drag me under, but the only difference is that now I’m prepared. I learned a valuable lesson and I will carry it within my heart and remind myself of what I’ve learned time and time again.

1- Someone elses reality isn’t necessarily my own.

2- Focus on the positive, and let the rest go.

I will definitely need to remind myself of this time and time again- but awareness is everything.

Coming Soon

I haven’t been able to access my blogs
since early this morning due to a DDoS attack that was on another site that is also hosted by the same hosting company that I use. They were on top of things pretty quickly and looks like the problem is resolved.

I have MUCH to blog about but I’m on the ‘eye’ so it will have to wait for tomorrow. Marcel has the next six days off, so I’m looking forward to spending some time with him.

My Gratitude List for October 3, 2010.

Today I’m Grateful For:

  • Desere coming over for coffee and a chat.
  • Spending time in the sunshine-  as my friend Samatha said- it’s like a familar arm draped over your shoulders.
  • The smell of banana crumb muffins coming from the kitchen.
  • Fresh grilled shrimp.
  • New plans and ideas.

Lovin’ Those Stripes

Filed under: Shop til ya Drop,Things I Love — gardener @ 11:06 am

I have been admiring this sweater for quite some time online but was hesitant to order it because I wasn’t sure if I’d like it once I did.   I also hate the idea of paying full price for something, especially if I know the chance exists that I can get it for a better price, so I waited.

I was also hesitant about ordering it because horizontal stripes are known to make you look larger and if there is anything I don’t want to look- it’s larger.    I went back and forth on that idea for a while, or at least until I got an email on Thursday that they were on sale.   I ended up ordering this sweater, plus another one with the only difference being that it was blue and white striped.     In addition to the sale price, I also received an additional 25% off.   It was a deal I couldn’t pass up.

I really hope they fit and look great on me- but if not, I know I can always return them to the store I ordered them from.  The great thing is that I can actually return them to the store as opposed to sending them back via the mail.   I’m assuming that isn’t going to have to happen though.

Gratitude List- October 1, 2010

Filed under: Gratitude — gardener @ 9:39 am

With today being the 1st of October, I thought it would be a great time to get back in the habit of creating a daily gratitude list. I want to spend more time focusing on the ‘great’ things going on my life and less time on the things that aren’t. It doesn’t mean I’m avoiding, it simply means that I’m choosing to focus on the positive.

I encourage you to do the same and see what it brings you.

My Gratitude List for October 1, 2010.

Today I’m Grateful For:

  • Desere, for stopping in this afternoon to see how I’m doing.
  • For the friends who have been checking in on me and showing love and support.
  • My brother, who I happen to know is brilliant and wonderful.
  • The love and support of my parents.
  • The leaves falling from the trees and the cool air.

Back to Basics

I was thinking not too long ago about how I used to send cards for everything. I think that I got out of the habit and switched to only sending birthday and Christmas cards when e-cards became so much easier, but I’ve started thinking that maybe it’s time to get back to basics and start sending cards more often. I used to send halloween cards every year to my family and a few close friends, and I think it would be fun to start doing it again. I know I don’t have to do it on the scale that I do when it’s Christmas, but a card every now and then to people that I care about is a great thing.

After all, I know how much I love seeing mail in the box that isn’t a bill, so why wouldn’t everyone else? I think as this year winds down I’m going to start making a list of things that I’d like to change and begin the process now so that when the first of the year comes, it will come easy. I see a lot of things that aren’t working the way I’d like them to in my life, and I know that it means it’s time for change. After all, the only person who can create change in my life- is me.
